This Palace is also a designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further enhancing interest to exploring and experiencing world heritage and ancient civilizations.
Knossos is situated about 5 kilometers south of the modern city of Heraklion, on the north coast of Crete.
The palace was built around 1900 BCE, during the Middle Minoan period, and it was continuously inhabited and expanded over the centuries. It reached its peak during the Late Bronze Age (around 1600 to 1100 BCE), when it was possibly the administrative and religious center of the Minoan civilization.
